Line height does more for readability than font choice. Text set too tight feels stressful to read even if the typeface itself is beautiful.
Contrast matters more than color trends. A design that looks striking in a mockup can be unreadable in direct sunlight on a phone.
The safest typographic decision is usually the most restrained one: one typeface, two weights, and a strict, boring size scale.
